Spend a day on the water visiting a little known island west of Key West. Boca Grande is becoming one of our most popular trips ever. Taking our 24′ skiff we head off out of Cow Key Marina along the south end of Key West, then across the channel into a shallow area known as the “Lakes”. From there we head west about 12 miles where we stop at an old wreck for some snorkeling.
The wreck is an old boat that the Navy used for target practice back in the 1940’s. It sits in about 15 feet of water and is full of sea life. The snorkeling is easy and you get to see quite a bit.
Then after the snorkel, we head over to the natural beach on the west side of Boca Grande. There we enjoy a light lunch and hang on the beach for a bit, then unload the kayaks and paddle around the island. There is lots of birdlife in the area, dolphins and sharks frequent the waters, along with turtles and rays. Then back home to Cow Key.
This is an easy and fun trip with lots of opportunity for photos and generally enjoying the out of doors. The skiff has lots of shade if you need to get out of the sun and run out and back only takes about an hour or so. Figure on about 6 hours for this trip.
The Boca Grande Trip is limited to a maximum of 6 people. Cost is $750 which includes the boat, kayaks and gear, snorkel gear, water and gatorade, plus captain and crew. Bring what you would like to eat. We do ask for 24 hours notice to book so we can prepare and supply the boat for the trip.
